These 3 Fashion Trends Won't Make It to 2019

December 11, 2018

By Joanne Rosa

Out with the old and in with the new! A new year is the perfect opportunity for us to clean house, and by house we mean your closet. This obviously includes those nasty washed out yoga pants you’ve had since Paris Hilton was the reigning socialite in the early 2000’s, but that’s not all. It’s time to get rid of the fads that are reaching their expiration date.

Wendy’s Wardrobe Stylist Willie Sinclair, III gave us his take on the three trends that are best left to die in 2018. Enjoy them while you still can, because Willie’s predicting they won’t see the light of day in 2019.

Biker Shorts

As long as we’re being completely honest here, we wish biker shorts as pants were never a thing. Willie is urging us all that “unless you’re training for the Tour de France I don’t think this is a trend that should be carried into 2019. It leaves little to the imagination and these aren’t a replacement for leggings (which also are NOT a replacement for pants, but that’s another story).” Unless your name is Kim Kardashian-and even then we’re still not all in on the look-lose the biker shorts. Instead, switch them out for a cute pair of jogger pants.

Fanny Pack

We were all shocked to see the fanny pack make its way back into mainstream fashion. Fanny packs are more convenient to travel with than any handbag or backpack, especially when festival season comes around. That being so, it’s probably best that they stay where they belong: in the 80s and 2018. Willie suggests that “as this trend fades it’s better to make way for small structured geometric bag shapes which you can use as a classic.” We’re so grateful for the fanny pack, but we’re ready to move on. Thank u, next.

PVC-an abbreviation for plastic polyvinyl chloride-is that vinyl like material that is both water repellent and dominatrix ready. Unfortunately, it’s not gonna make the cut. “This trend dominated the scene at the beginning of the year inspiring pieces from boots, purses and overcoats,” Willie explained. Unless a mild spring shower rains upon us, PVC isn’t all that practical. You don’t want your steamy night to be because you’re fogging and sweating in your PVC dress, and no one likes the sound of plastic against your skin with every move you make. “[PVC] ran its course within the fashion world, especially when it comes to footwear.” Time to say goodbye to all the designer plastic you paid hundreds for.
